If you deem something important enough to leave your pc, then you're deeming it important enough to lose any drops. In that case, you can't complain.

Whether people should have taken it is a moot point, because people always will take those things because 300gp is worth 10 minutes of many people's time.

If you bailed on me for over 10 minutes without saying anything, I'd take your stuff too.

I vote for "if it's neglected and left on the ground for 10 minutes, it's fair game." However there are always special circumstances. which have already been covered above. It's only fair that surviving party members make best effort to help someone retrieve their loot.

Which is why I would rather see the "assigned" period extended to 30 minutes. When you're in a Timed mission that requires splitting the party or moving along rapidly, you might not be anywhere near a gold drop, forcing you to choose between risking a mission failure or trying to retrieve a dropped item that may be hard to access.

However with a 30 minute Timer the people skulking about waiting for a gold to go unassigned are either really really sad individuals or really really kind and helpful. For the former you can laugh at their greed which will most likely land them 200-300 gold, or you can add them to your friends list because they were nice enough to return something to you.

Really though, for most scenarios this is somewhat like the survivor title. Even if it's circumstances beyond your control or an act of god, if you die before you achieve Legendary Survivor(3), you don't get a second chance. If you can't get to your drop within 10 minutes, either write it off as a loss or do whatever it takes to go retrieve it.

Make your choice, deal with the consequences, and stop complaining about it.

We'll form there perspective they worked hard in a team, and at last guy you bailed, and got the good drops, so its fair enough that one of them feels the right to it as they killed it. that'd be form the pugs view imo.

but dude, your mom cut herself and you lost a drop..do you regret it?
she could have hurt herself bad, things could be far worse then a stolen tome.
Just a bandage job yeah?

Waiting 10 minutes for an item to become fair game is nothing to a guy who's only other alternative is to farm for another hour or more hoping for another drop of whatever it is he wanted. Some people would probably argue that spending 4 hours every night grinding and farming for an object in a video game is the more pathetic of the two.

I pick up everything but most of the time the pearson didn't want it anyway. Alot of the time I almost stick what I pick up in my mouth but then I here my moms voice. "Put That Down You Don't Know Where That's Been!!!!" "You Want me to spank you!?!" "Then Get that Out of Your Mouth!!!"

Hey, that's why there's a 10 minute rule. It's fair game after that! What's more important anyway? Immaterial gold item on a VG, or your own mom? GG for picking mom.

All who oppose:

As I usually have nothing better to do with my time online, I will gladly wait the time it takes to make your drops mine. The way I see it, if you leave it there for too long the "finders keepers" rule goes into effect and I take it. Although, I'm not scummy enough to wait the alloted time for a pile of glittering dust.

There's nothing really wrong with doing stuff like that.

Heck, if you went afk during a PuG, you deserve to have that taken. I would have done the same thing to you. You know the drop timer, you know that you're with other people, and you know that people will do that. Seriously, and you complain.

Once your name comes off that item, it's up for grabs. So says the holy rule of Arenanet.

Heh you should have seen all the Festival prize scavangers at the boardwalk games during the dragon festival.

all those afk boardwalkers got ripped by the masses.

(fine i was there ripping to, i mean free drinks is just to tempting)

If everyone has left, except you and your two gold drops and myself, and you haven't moved a muscle in 10 minutes, I will assume your game locked up and I will take your gold items as it would be waste otherwise.

If I really had a heart, I might PM you to PM me to get your drops returned, otherwise... waaa.

It's sad that some one would waster the time to wait for the tome and gold item to become "fair game" rather than go out and farm it. I can get an Elite Necromancer Tome in the 10 mins that guy took to get it to become "fair game". The same goes for just about any item, and I'll come out with more than just the item more often than not. (i.e. Farming the colossal scimitar will get me 1. $$ drops 2. white items to sell for 50g each 3. gold weps and 4. a possible scimitar) Really the guy lost money in stealing the items.

Shame on anyone who would wait for someone else's drop by refusing to res them. Its unbelievable anyone would do that. I have never been in a party that has done that or tried it, but I have of course heard about it before.

They wouldnt get away with it with me around anyway, as I'd res anyone before anyone could do that. No one would want my drops and do it to me anyway. Have never sold any gold drop for more than 20-30k lol. I just dont see them.

Shame on me then.

This thread has just gotten around to a discussion on personal morals, and that's a subject where none of us has the right to tell the other we are wrong, unless one of you happens not to be an imperfect human and can tell us right from wrong better than another human can?

I will only say this. Your name goes off the drop after 10 minutes. This was how Arenanet designed the game, and I play by the design. It clearly states the rule of Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers. If I am careless enough not to pick up a drop then someone else who is not careless is rewarded. End of Story.
